A
Sample Workplace Disciplinary Procedure
DISCIPLINARY MEASURES
Supervisors and workers are
subject to progressive disciplinary actions if they not adhere to the Code
of Practice. Failure to do so will result in the following disciplinary
actions:
- First offense: Verbally advise &
educate the workers
Where a worker fails to comply with the company’s Code of Practice, the
supervisor is responsible to verbally advise the worker that their
behaviour is unacceptable. The supervisor will also educate the worker
on the proper steps to follow to ensure their health and safety.
The supervisor must then describe the action taken in the event of
subsequent offenses.
It is of utmost importance for the supervisor to record the time, date and
type of offense.
- Second offense: Written warning
Should the worker fail to comply with the company’s Code of Practice, a
written warning will be issued by the supervisor of the second offense.
The worker will also get a copy of the written warning. The supervisor
will remind the worker of the proper procedures to follow and describe
the action taken in the event of subsequent offenses.
It is of utmost importance for the supervisor to record the time, date,
type, witnesses and number of offenses.
The matter will be brought forward to the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)
for point of discussion.
- Third offense: Sent home for three
days
If the worker fails to comply with the company’s Code of Practice a third
time, the supervisor will send the worker home from work for three days
without pay.
The matter will again be brought forward to the JHSC for discussion.
Before sending the worker home, the supervisor swill explain the offense
to the worker and describe the last action taken in the event of a fourth offense.
- Fourth offense: Dismissal
In the event of a fourth offense, the supervisor will explain to the worker
all the previous offenses and that the worker is being discharged permanently.
This action will also be recorded and kept in file for five years.
