ACCIDENT REPORTS

These Accident Reports represent a small sample of some of the serious accidents happening around the province. They include non-specific details from WorkSafeNB’s “Preliminary Accident Notification” documents, which are created when WorkSafeNB is notified of a workplace accident. Accident Reports are made public to New Brunswick’s employers and workers with the hope that the information will help prevent similar accidents from occurring.

Worker was using a mitre saw to cut fascia board and cut the tip of his finger off.

Worker was feeding sheets into a pressing machine; when the sheets did not return she looked in behind the machine and found that the rollers were not catching the sheets. As she pushed the material into the rollers under the guard, the sheets caught and pulled her hand into the rollers. A pry bar was used to free her hand.

Still unable to release the conduit/cable, the worker kicked himself away from the wall, and fell backwards to the floor, finally releasing the conduit/cable.

Worker was unloading firewood from a dump truck; when the tailgate would not open he hit the gate with a sledgehammer. The gate released and the wood began to fall out, and, at the same time, the truck started backing up, pinning him under the tires. The parking brake was not on.
