PREVENTION AT SCHOOL

WorkSafeNB wants our young people, the workers of tomorrow, to believe that all accidents are preventable, and that safety extends beyond the workplace into most aspects of everyday life. WorkSafeNB is committed to providing resources to these future workers so they can develop the skills they need to make safe choices—safe choices for life!

Partnership with the New Brunswick Department of Education
To achieve this goal, WorkSafeNB has developed a partnership with the Department of Education. This partnership has resulted in the creation of a wide variety of health and safety resources for all students from kindergarten through to Grade 12, including the activity-based Choices for Life program. This unique resource was designed to provide teachers with health and safety-related activities that are fun, educational and appropriate for any classroom setting.

Teacher involvement
Involving teachers in the development process of this and other resources has ensured that the activities are user friendly and relevant in a variety of curriculum areas. Teachers and their students can revisit relevant health and safety issues year after year, ensuring that students learn that health and safety is an integral part of life-long success.

Curriculum development
In addition to the development of Choices for Life, WorkSafeNB has been invited by the Department of Education to make recommendations for health and safety related curriculum outcomes in subject areas such as health, technology, and school-to-work transition programs. WorkSafeNB continues to be involved with an array of teacher and student workshops and professional development activities.
