WorkSafeNB announces Health and Safety Educator Award

March 15, 2016

WorkSafeNB is pleased to announce a new award to recognize New Brunswick educators who make youth health and safety a priority.

The WorkSafeNB Health and Safety Educator Award will honour two New Brunswick educators – one each from an anglophone and a francophone school sector.

Nominees must be employees of a school or Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) centre in either a K-12 or ELCC-12 environment. Other criteria include promoting health and safety leadership in and out of the classroom and incorporating learning opportunities, such as safety talks and health presentations, in curriculum.

“This award will recognize educators who clearly demonstrate a commitment to promoting and advancing youth health and safety,” said Gerard Adams, WorkSafeNB president and CEO. “Educators are critical to the health and safety of our youth, and we’re pleased to recognize their efforts.”

As part of its safety goal, WorkSafeNB works with New Brunswick stakeholders to reduce the frequency of workplace injuries in the province. The agency has three dedicated programs to help promote safety leadership in youth from grades K-12. It also offers resources and support for young workers up to the age of 24, as well as their parents, teachers and employers.

Nominations for the 2016 award will be accepted until May 20. The awards will be presented at the 2016 WorkSafeNB Health and Safety Conference in Moncton, which takes place October 12-14.
