Opening Plenary with Clint Malarchuk
Former NHL Goaltender / Mental Health Advocate
Clint Malarchuk's life is a testament to resilience and advocacy. Hailing from Grand Prairie, Alberta, he achieved a storied NHL career with teams like the Quebec Nordiques, Washington Capitals, and Buffalo Sabres. Off the ice, Clint faced personal battles with anxiety, OCD, and depression, intensified by a near-fatal injury in 1989 and a suicide attempt in 2008. These challenges spurred his transformation into a dedicated mental health advocate and renowned speaker, chronicling his journey in the book The Crazy Game: How I Survived in the Crease and Beyond. Honoured in the New York State Hockey Hall of Fame and bestowed with an honorary doctorate from Nipissing University, Clint continues to inspire others by dismantling stigmas surrounding mental illness through his resilience and unwavering advocacy efforts.
Closing Plenary with Chris Hadfield
Astronaut / First Canadian Commander of the International Space Station
Colonel Chris Hadfield is a renowned astronaut and leader with over three decades of service at NASA and the Canadian Space Agency. He commanded the International Space Station, flew three space missions, conducted two spacewalks, and contributed to building two space stations. His rendition of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” captivated 75 million viewers and earned praise from Bowie himself. A sought-after speaker and bestselling author, Hadfield inspires audiences globally with insights on leadership, exploration, and science. He continues to innovate as an advisor to aerospace firms, an adjunct professor, and chair of the board for the Open Lunar Foundation.
