Injury or illness recurrence

A recurrence is the return of an injury or illness in which you previously received WorkSafeNB benefits (treatment and/or income replacement). It is not a new accident or injury – but a flare up or recurrence.

When this happens, you have two options, depending on need:

Time off work (+ possible medical treament)

If the recurrence requires you to take time off work (plus possible need for medical treatment), complete the Application for Workers’ Compensation Benefits as if you were filing a new claim. Ensure you select “recurrence” in section 2 and enter the claim number from the previous injury or illness. You'll also need to descripbe the circumstances of your recurrence.

Medical treament only

If the recurrence requires medical treatment only (there's no time lost from work), complete the Medical Aid Request (for inactive claims) form. You must enter the claim number from the previous injury or illness.

Both of these scenaros are for inactive claims (you are not currently receiving WorkSafeNB benefits for this injury or illness). If your claim is active, contact your case manager directly.
