Policy

Rates / Fees

1. Below are the rates for expenses that have met the eligibility criteria under Policy 21-220 Claim-related Travel.

Transportation

2. The transportation amounts for mileage beyond the 20 km exclusion zone are:

  • $0.58 per kilometre for the first 8,000 kilometres driven;
  • $0.53 per kilometre from 8,001 to 16,000 kilometres; and
  • $0.46 per kilometre thereafter.

3. Workers traveling by a WorkSafeNB approved alternative mode of transportation (air, rail, bus, taxi) will be reimbursed the full cost. Receipts are required.

4. When claim-related travel is required outside of New Brunswick, WorkSafeNB will arrange or pre-approve the worker's transportation using the most cost-effective and suitable means available.

5. Other approved transportation costs like bus or taxi, road or bridge tolls, and parking fees are reimbursed at cost. Receipts are required. 

Accommodation

6. WorkSafeNB pays a negotiated rate for hotels throughout New Brunswick.  

7. Workers who choose to stay in an alternative hotel will only be reimbursed the cost of the accommodation up to the maximum negotiated rate for hotels in the area.

8. When a negotiated rate is not established for hotels in an area, WorkSafeNB reimburses workers for the cost of the accommodation, provided the cost is reasonable for the area. Receipts are required.

9. When WorkSafeNB authorizes an attendant or companion to share a worker’s room, the double-occupancy surcharge on the room is paid in full.

Meals 

10. The meal allowance may be paid in part or in full. No receipts are required. The  amounts are:

 Lunch  $17.29  $19.69
 Dinner  $32.03  $39.45

 

Long-term training away from home area

11. The reimbursement fee for workers registered in a long-term training program is the lesser of:

  • The transportation payable plus the accommodation expenses; or
  • $150/week ($30/day).

12. WorkSafeNB also pays a daily meal allowance that is equal to 50% of the meal allowance outlined above.

Negotiated rate – a fixed rate for accommodation that has been agreed upon between WorkSafeNB and a service provider for provision of accommodations for injured workers.
