Rates/ Fees
1. Policy 25-007 – Prostheses, Orthoses, and Assistive Devices provides authority for the provision of prescription eyewear. WorkSafeNB may provide, repair, or replace prescription eyeglasses, prescription contact lenses, prescription safety glasses, or prescription sunglasses when:
Prescription eyewear damaged during a compensable injury
2. WorkSafeNB repairs or replaces pre-accident prescription eyewear (including prescription safety glasses, if paid for by the worker) when damaged during a compensable injury. The replacement value is equal to lenses and frames of similar type and quality to those that were damaged.
3. WorkSafeNB is not responsible for ongoing maintenance or subsequent repair or replacement.
Prescription eyewear provided to treat a compensable injury
4. WorkSafeNB provides eyewear to treat a compensable workplace injury when prescribed by a WorkSafeNB-approved licensed health care provider.
5. When provided to treat a compensable injury, WorkSafeNB will repair or replace lenses and frames once every three years.
6. When a change in prescription is compatible with the compensable injury, WorkSafeNB will provide new lenses to the worker.
7. When providing reimbursement for prescription eyewear in 2026, WorkSafeNB pays for:
Receipts are required for reimbursement to be provided.
8. The injured worker may apply the value of the lenses and frames to the purchase of contact lenses.
9. Any additional coatings or features to lenses that are not included in the standard cost of the prescribed lenses may be purchased and paid for by the worker, unless necessary to treat a compensable injury.
