News Release WorkSafeNB releases 2005 Report to Stakeholders

July 25, 2006

Saint John, NB: The Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WHSCC) is pleased to announce the release of its 2005 Report to Stakeholders, a report that highlights not only the WHSCC’s significant successes, but also areas it’s working on to improve.

“We’ve been the WHSCC for 10 years now, but are still being referred to as ‘Workers’ Comp,’ ” says Doug Stanley, President and CEO, WHSCC. “Of course providing compensation benefits is a large part of what we do, but we are so much more than that. We’re about prevention, and eliminating the need for compensation by eliminating workplace injuries; we’re about education and enforcement, rehabilitation and return to work,” Stanley says.

“The stakeholder report is our story, and that of our clients,” he says. “The report outlines our goals, the programs and processes in place to help attain them, our services, targets and results. It features inspiring stories about our clients – injured workers who overcome difficult obstacles in their quest to return to work, for example, or workplaces that significantly reduce accidents. In this year’s report you can read about how one New Brunswick employer reduced lost-time accidents by 87% in one year.”

The report also profiles staff and the role they play in providing the WHSCC’s stakeholders with prompt, effective, efficient, just, fair and caring services to its clients.
