Saint John, NB: The Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WHSCC) is investigating an accident on the Trans-Canada Highway that claimed the life of a 62-year-old man.
A road crew member with the Department of Transportation was killed today when struck by a Chebogue Fisheries Ltd., transport truck on the eastbound lane of TCH #2, near exit 452. Three other workers were injured and are being treated in the Moncton City Hospital.
The Department of Transportation crew was erecting signage and preparing the area for asphalt patching when the truck hit them. Two WHSCC officers were dispatched as soon as the accident was reported, and are still investigating to determine whether there were violations to the Occupational Health and Safety Act. At this time, no orders have been written or charges laid.
