The WHSCC, along with McCain Foods Canada, established a new award to recognize outstanding efforts in health and safety practices by potato growers in the Grand Falls and Florenceville regions. The inaugural awards were presented at the annual McCain Top Grower Banquet and Award Ceremony in August.
Winners were selected based on their compliance record, their injury record and the results of an on-site farm inspection conducted by a WHSCC health and safety officer.
The award was presented to brothers Bernard and Gérard Levesque, representing the Grand Falls region, while Côté Farms Limited (Enoil Côté), Dionne Farms (Paul Dionne) and Les fermes LP Thériault (Marc Thériault) were recognized with honourable mentions.
Albright Farms took top honours in the Florenceville area, while the following six growers received honorable mentions: Anderson Farms (Brent Anderson; Gerald & Cory Culberson Inc. (Cory Culberson); Linton Enterprises (Keith Linton); RH McLean Farms Inc. (Randy McLean); Stephenson Farms (Carl Stephenson); and,Triple L Farms Ltd.(Stephen London).
