Saint John: The WHSCC recently recognized the New Brunswick Forest Industries Safety Association (NBFISA) for its concerted commitment to helping save lives and prevent injuries by creating a positive, proactive safety culture in their industry.

“We are pleased to salute the efforts of the New Brunswick Forest industries Safety Association, an association dedicated to providing high-quality health and safety training to our province’s forestry workers. We appreciate and acknowledge their contribution to the health and well-being of New Brunswick’s forestry workers,” said Doug Stanley, president and CEO of the WHSCC, at a presentation October 16 during the 27th Annual WHSCC Health and Safety Conference. “They’ve answered the call for an industry that needs a strong voice for safety,” Stanley said.

“Our primary objective is to save lives and prevent injuries, thereby encouraging New Brunswick forest industries to become independently more efficient and collectively more viable,” said Barb Svarc, executive director of NBFISA.

“In saying that, what may be surprising to hear today is that despite the unprecedented hard economical times facing our membership and the rest of the forest industry, our records clearly indicate a decrease in accident frequency and a correlating increase in the amount of NBFISA training. This demonstrates that we do in fact have an important part to play in making our industry safer, a role we take seriously and are very proud to play,” Svarc said.
