November 19, 2010

FREDERICTON (CNB) – Sharon Tucker has been appointed chair of WorkSafeNB. The appointment was announced today by Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Martine Coulombe.

"I am pleased with this new appointment to the WorkSafeNB board," Coulombe said. "Ms. Tucker's strong leadership skills combined with her extensive work experience in the health sector will be definite assets to help WorkSafeNB continue to meet its vision of healthy and safe workplaces in New Brunswick."

Currently the facility administrator at the Charlotte County Hospital, Tucker is a registered nurse with significant management experience. For more than a decade, she has been actively involved in St. George town council, where she has chaired a number of committees, served as deputy mayor and, since 2008, as mayor. "

Ms. Tucker also served on the WorkSafeNB board of directors between 2007 and 2010,” said Coulombe. “As a result, she is well aware of the organization's mandate and ongoing priorities. At this time, I would also like to recognize Roberta Dugas for her outstanding work as chair of the board of directors since 2006."

WorkSafeNB is a Crown corporation charged with overseeing the implementation and application of the New Brunswick Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Workers' Compensation Act of New Brunswick, the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission Act of New Brunswick, and the Firefighters' Compensation Act.
