WorkSafeNB’s 2009 Report to Stakeholders presents the organization’s results as it worked toward meeting its strategic goals of safety, balance, return to work, service and staff satisfaction and engagement.
“I am proud to present these results, both our successes and those where we fell short because, as a board, we are committed to being accountable and transparent,“ said Roberta Dugas, chairperson of WorkSafeNB’s board of directors.
“We are pleased to have met our target for reducing injury frequency, down from 3.40 accidents (per 100 workers) in 2008 to 3.24 in 2009,” Dugas said. “This represents a 4.9% decrease. And because accident costs play the largest part in determining assessment rates, reduced injury frequency helped us reduce assessment rates for employers for the fourth consecutive year, to $2.03 in 2009, down from $2.05 in 2008,” she said.
WorkSafeNB exceeded its target for balance and improved its funded position to 101.6%, up from 87.8% in 2008.
“Returning to a full-funded liability, reducing assessment rates while, at the same time, increasing the amount set aside for annuity benefits for injured workers is clearly an achievement of the balance goal.”
In 2009, 82% of registered employers reported satisfaction with WorkSafeNB’s services, exceeding the target of 80%; however, only 78% of injured workers indicated satisfaction. “While these targets are set at 80%, we recognize that our commitment to improving our services will end only when we reach 100% client satisfaction,” Dugas said.
“The 2009 Stakeholder Report details what we hoped to achieve and what we actually achieved. We achieved what we did by working together – our board of directors and staff – within the best interests of New Brunswick’s workers and employers. We pledge a continued commitment to working together on their behalf, toward our vision of healthy and safe workplaces in New Brusnwick,” said WorkSafeNB’s president, Doug Stanley.
