WorkSafeNB is investigating a workplace accident on December 17 at a bottling facility in Moncton, N.B. that claimed the life of a 37-year-old worker.
The deceased and a co-worker, both employees of an external contractor, were removing a floor guard used to protect storage racks. The co-worker was operating an industrial lift truck and was prying the guard with the forks. When the screws holding the guard let go, the guard struck the worker in the head.
WorkSafeNB’s investigation will include a focus on workplace procedures, examination of machinery and equipment, and whether workers received adequate training and supervision. WorkSafeNB’s health and safety officers are investigating to determine how the accident could have been prevented and if there were any violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
