WorkSafeNB is saddened to report that a worker died Friday, November 13, after an incident at a peat moss harvesting site in Inkerman, New Brunswick, about 15 kilometres north of Tracadie-Sheila. The incident happened at around 10:30 p.m.
The man, in his late 40s, died from crushing injuries involving a hydraulic conveyor.
WorkSafeNB issued a stop-work order – not to disturb the scene – to Sun Gro Horticulture Canada Ltd. WorkSafeNB officers were at the worksite throughout the weekend, and were still investigating on site as of Monday morning.
The investigation helps WorkSafeNB determine how the fatality may have been prevented and whether there were any violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act or its regulations.
