WorkSafeNB, in collaboration with the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), launches a new app today to help New Brunswickers better access workplace health and safety information.

The NB OHS Guide app provides mobile access to the WorkSafeNB Guide to OHS Legislation website, which launched in May 2015. The site hosts relevant, up-to-date information on more than 35 topics concerning the health and safety of every New Brunswick worker.

“It responds to the evolving needs of our workforce, which is increasingly mobile,” said Gerard Adams, WorkSafeNB’s president and CEO.

“The NB OHS Guide app offers the flexibility and portability New Brunswick workers and employers need and want,” Adams added. “From any jobsite, a worker can look up health and safety requirements, tips and more – and it’s all available with a few taps of a fingertip.”

CCOHS, a national workplace health and safety leader, partnered with WorkSafeNB to develop both the app and website.

“We’re pleased to collaborate once again with WorkSafeNB to help equip workers and employers with the necessary information for safe work,” said Frank Leduc, CCOHS acting president and CEO. “The workplace and the way in which Canadians access information is changing. Embracing new technologies such as mobile apps is essential to bring us closer to our goal of making health and safety information available to every worker.”

When the WorkSafeNB Guide to OHS Legislation site launched last year, it offered information on 30 topics. It now hosts 39 topics and more will be added annually.  Each topic links to related resources such as summaries, legislative interpretations, hazard alerts and safety talks.

Topics added in 2016 include joint health and safety committee requirements (for project sites and fixed location workplaces); new employee orientation; pits and quarries; workplace inspections; hazard identification systems; working alone; and reporting and notification requirements.

The NB OHS Guide app is free and can be downloaded through the App Store or Google Play, depending on the type of device you use – search for “NB OHS Guide.”
