Recurrence of injury or illness

If you have a recurrence (flare-up)

If you have a recurrence (flare-up)

While we hope it doesn't happen, you may experience a recurrence (flare-up) from a previous workplace injury or illness. This recurrence is the return of an injury or illness in which you previously received WorkSafeNB benefits (treatment and/or wage replacement). It's not a new accident or injury. Your next step depends on need.

Need medical treatment only

If you're not losing time from work and need medical treatment only (physiotherapy, chiropractic service, etc.), complete the Application for Medical Aid. You must enter the claim number from the previous injury or illness.

Need medical treatment and wage replacement

If you've lost time (or are losing time) from work and need medical treatment, complete the Application for Workers’ Compensation Benefits as if you were filing a new claim. Ensure you select “recurrence” in section 2 and enter the claim number from the previous injury or illness. You'll also need to describe the circumstances of your recurrence (flare-up).

Both requests are for workers who previously had an approved claim for a work-related compensable injury or illness or access to long-term disability benefits. If you’re actively working with a case manager, contact them directly. If you need more information, call us at 1-800-999-9775.
