Mild traumatic brain injuries

A concussion is an injury that affects brain function. Concussions are often caused by an injury to the head, and can have temporary effects such as headaches and problems with concentration, memory, balance and co-ordination.

WorkSafeNB has partnered with the NB Trauma Program to support workers with a suspected concussion. This includes developing a safe return-to-work program. WorkSafeNB also offers imaging services for workers with a questionable concussion diagnosis.

Treatment involves early return to activities that do not trigger symptoms, and gradually increasing activities to those that are more strenuous or require thinking and mental concentration. Headaches can be treated with Acetaminophen. Most people recover fully from the concussion within days to a few weeks.
